Regional Assemblies

At the commencement of the 2000-2006 round of Structural Funds, Ireland was divided in two NUTS regions, namely the Southern & Eastern Region (S&E) and the Border, Midland & Western Region (BMW). Following this, two new Regional Assemblies were established and came into being in July under the Local Government Act, 1991 (Regional Authorities)(Establishment) Order 1999. The Assemblies comprise nominated representatives of the regional authorities within each region.

Role of the Regional Assemblies

Manage the Regional Operational Programme under the NDP 2000-2006
Monitor the impact of all EU Programmes under the NDP/CSF in their Regions
Promote the co-ordination of the provision of Public Services in the Region
